Accreditation

Public accreditation of educational programmes in engineering and technology provides evidence of recognition of education quality by professional engineering community. Moreover, the accreditation process is aimed at improving the quality of Russian engineering education.

Russian Federal Law “On Education” provides existence of state accreditation system as well as public accreditation system. “State accreditation of educational institutions and assistance in public accreditation… come within the competence of education management bodies” (Federal Law “On Education”, article 37). Unlike state accreditation which mainly executes control function, public accreditation is aimed at improvement and development of education.

According to the agreement between the Federal Education and Science Supervision Service and the Russian Association for Engineering Education, RAEE works on developing national system of professional accreditation of engineering programmes in cooperation with leading foreign and international organizations. The Association improves the system trying to reach the main goal – induction into the Washington Accord, an agreement which provides mutual recognition of signatories’ national accreditation systems of engineering education, and integration with European system of engineering education quality assurance.

We are fully confident that using world experience in building quality assurance systems along with reliance on traditions of Russian engineering education will facilitate progress and enhance the prestige of Russian higher education in Russia and abroad.

Accreditation of educational programs provides HEI with opportunities to:

  • show loyalty to high quality standards of education;
  • get an independent expert evaluation of educational programmes;
  • get recommendations for the improvement of educational programmes;
  • make a public announcement about reaching a high level of education quality;
  • raise its competitive capacity on the Russian educational market;
  • initiate the process of penetrating and developing the international education market;
  • ensure and increase graduates’ employment.

The list of educational programmes accredited by RAEE is published in Russian and foreign mass media, is sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation, the Federal Education and Science Supervision Service, and is spread among the signatories of the Washington Accord, members of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) and members of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI).
